The Death of Mr. Love

Posted in Figments, Love, Neha Jhingon, Short stories by Neha

*Title shamelessly copied from Indra Sinha’s book “Death Of Mr. Love”*

What are you doing?
I’m killing Mr. Love

Who are you?
Im no one in particular. I’m just… no one.

Why are you here?
I am not sure. I don’t even know if I want to be here.

Are you here by choice then?
Perhaps. It’s a series of choices that has brought me here.

What kind of choices?
Somewhat binary in nature. I wouldn’t have scored well if it were a pop quiz. But since it’s not… I’m here.

Do you know what this place is?
Absolutely. This is oblivion isn’t it?

Yes. It’s not wise to stay here.
But I have no where else to go.

Who are you again?
I’m the one who killed Mr. Love.

*Mr. Love is a manifestation of Love as a male entity. In Indra Sinha’s book, Mr. Love signifies the Character Prem Ahuja, who was later killed by his lover’s husband, Captain Nanavati (I have intended a play of words here.)
Oblivion – 1. the state of being completely forgotten or unknown: a former movie star now in oblivion.
2. the state of forgetting or of being oblivious: the oblivion of sleep.
3. official disregard or overlooking of offenses; pardon; amnesty.
