What’s a man gotta do?
And so the year began on a bitter note. She would just not listen to me anymore. Just won’t let me explain. Sits there watching me, red eyed. But wouldn’t hear something that would bring a smile to her lips.
I hate love. Did I ever tell you that? I have been with women. Of all kinds. All shapes and sizes. All colours. All ages. I once loved them. Loved them all. But there is only too much you can give out. And I hit rockbottom. Like I was gonna someday. I even remember the date.
8 June. That was the day she walked out. Never to return. I was too much a man then. Could not get down on my knees. What the hell! It was not much my fault anyway. She needed to understand that a man’s gotta work to have his stomach’s fill.
I thought I could get over her. I did actually. Met a beautiful woman. Married her. Two days later, screamed out her name while making love to my wife. What’s a man to do?
I wonder what binds me to her. That which gently pulls me away from all that I’ve so painstakingly built and pushes me towards my bitter end. Maybe it was the way she smiled. I always loved her dimples. Maybe it was the way she never bothered to brush her hair off her eyes. Or maybe it was just the way I could not ever take my eyes off her for just one moment.
Shit!
I gotta stop thinking about her. My wife’s crying buckets here! Maybe I should tell her. Tell her what? Maybe I should just let her cry.
