Deliverance

Posted in Neha Jhingon, Thoughts by Neha

A child born on a solar eclipse. Against all odds. A medical miracle, the doctors professed. A beautiful child. The first born. The mother happy, the father ecstatic.
From the shadows, came a voice, “But she is only a girl”
A cry of an infant, sobs of a mother, apprehension of a father. Smell of sweat.

In the bunglow, there is no cheer. No welcome for the new arrival. Eyes follow the father as he clutches his beloved child to his chest. They shy away from the accusing eyes…
In a secluded world does the child grow up… always being ashamed of her existance. Reminded her of being the second sex…

A scholar never acclaimed.
A beauty never acknowledged.
A goddess tainted…
Men groping, women precarious, family wary, peers clueless…

Alone, lonely, distraught, helpless, despaired… living on crumbs of bliss.
She lives alone now. Not lonely anymore. Alonness. Not Lonliness.

Brilliance acceded.
Beauty professed…
A goddess worshipped.
Men on their knees, women in awe, peers glorifying…
Alone, lonely, tranquil, independent, hopeful…
Pride salvaged… Paradise delivered…

This child was born during the time of the Sikh riots in Delhi which ultimately led to the assassination of Indira Gandhi and operation blue star. At the time of fear and uncertainity when sikh families were being mauled for no reason.
But Indira Gandhi has no relevence to this post. Just want you to picture the backdrop.

    This is a true story.
